About the Canadian Cannabis and Health Dashboard

Canada legalized non-medical cannabis for adult use in October 2018. The goal of this dashboard is to provide contemporary data on changes in key cannabis market and health indicators over time. Market indicators include cannabis sales, access to cannabis retail stores and key regulation changes. Health outcomes will include emergency department (ED) visits and hospitalizations caused by cannabis along with cannabis-involvement in key outcomes (e.g. motor vehicle collisions, during pregnancy).

Market indicators comes from publicly available sales and demographic data from Statistics Canada and from a CIHR funded project tracking the location and operating status of every cannabis store in Canada over time. Health outcomes will be obtained from administrative data capturing all health care visits in Ontario, and all hospitalizations in Canada.
